If you get a voucher this Christmas, use it before next Christmas!
That’s the advice of consumer affairs correspondent Conor Pope.
He says a gift card could deplete in value over 12 months due to maintenance fees placed on them by certain retailers.
Conor says it’s common practice on vouchers from shopping centres:
"I'm talking about the One4All type vouchers, and the Town Centre type vouchers. Maintenance fees kick in, if you don't use the card within the first 12 months. If you're charged 3 quid a month on a €50 voucher, it means after the second year that the voucher is only worth 20 quid. If you get a voucher this Christmas, use it before next Christmas".
