Conditions at tented accommodation for asylum seekers in Athlone and Limerick have been described as degrading and intolerable.

According to the Journal.ie, there are 146 people in tented accommodation in Athlone.

And Doras CEO John Lannon says more asylum seekers are being accommodated in tents at Knocklisheen in Limerick:

"We visited Knocklisheen this week. We spoke to residents who described how living in the tents is becoming extremely difficult as winter sets in, and they talked about the cold coming up through the floor, they talked about having to walk across an open area to the toilet at night in the rain and wind, about a lack of personal space, a lack of storage for their own items, lots of difficulties. Basically, they said the conditions are becoming quite intolerable".
