A cold weather advisory has been extended until next Wednesday.

Met Eireann says the possibility of snow, sleet and ice will remain especially in coastal counties.

Gardai in Cork are warning road users to expect hazardous conditions over the coming as the cold snap continues.

Forecasters say overnight snow will be 'difficult to clear' in the coming days, which could leave conditions treacherous.

There were a number of collisions on Cork roads yesterday including on the M8 at Watergrasshill.

Speaking to RedFM News, Inspector Gillian Synnott from the Cork City Roads Policing Unit says people need to pay particular attention during the cold snap:

"At the lower temperatures what we're experiencing now for early in the morning, we're just asking people to reduce their speeds and drive according to the road and weather conditions. Listen to the weather report, be aware of what's out there. And obviously just remember that you now need a greater stopping distance, it's doubling whether it's 10 times greater in icy weather a little more people are aware that it's so much greater and just be aware of it. And of course, the glare from the sun, maybe wear sunglasses and the glare can really hit people starting to deviate slightly. That's all we all take half a second."
