Changes in Leaving and Junior Certificate exams eases pressure on students

Over 131,000 students are currently sitting their Junior and Leaving Certificate exams.

Today is the first day of the state exams, and the first time they've been held in the traditional format since the pandemic.

Adjustments have been made to the written exams this year, including more choice in questions.

This woman's son is sitting his Leaving Cert this morning and says changes to the format have eased pressure:

"He is very cool and calm and collected, and totally unfazed by it. I think it's absolutely his personality. I think maybe making the Leaving Cert with all of the accommodations, that has certainly taken the sting out of it and out of a lot of papers because they're not on time trials anymore, which they were previously."
