There have been calls to delve into the government's 'rainy day fund' to help important youth services.

The Children's Rights Alliance believes not enough has been done to support these services in this week's Budget.

They've welcomed a reduction in childcare costs for an industry that has been 'underfunded' for so long.

CEO Tanya Ward says the Cherry Orchard incident in Dublin last month, involving a Garda car being rammed, shows more funding is needed:

"You take the youth services for example, even though it's been all over Lifeline and the papers that kind of stuff that was happening in Cherry Orchard, you know the answer for an area where these, you know, huge levels of crime, our young people acting out, is to really invest in and build up those youth services."
