Hot temperatures have prompted last-minute pleas to stop 'Puck Fair' displaying a live goat in a cage during the heatwave.
Taking place in Killorglin in Kerry, Puck is one of Ireland's oldest and longest celebrated fairs.
Traditionally, a wild goat is hoisted in a cage, up to the top of a 50-foot stand overlooking the town - for three days and nights.
Animal rights activist John Carmody says the blistering heat will mean the animal runs the risk of heat stroke.
