There are calls for a higher tax on energy drinks.
The Irish Heart Foundation says they contribute to childhood as well as adult obesity, with disadvantaged children the worst affected.
The drinks are already subject to the sugar tax, but the organisation is calling for a higher band.
The HSE's clinical lead for obesity, Donal O'Shea, says there is worrying trend in young people consuming them.
"They're being driven by the social media marketing that is targeting younger people.
"They drive a general pattern of consumption that fills your diet with high salt, high fat, high sugar."
