Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said he doesn't think current licencing laws should be kept.
Cabinet has approved a bill which would give pubs later opening hours during the week and allow nightclubs to stay open until 6am.
Some opposition has emerged among those with concerns about the health impact of longer drinking hours.
However, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar believes the proposal is a good one.
