It could be a number of days before some businesses reopen in Wexford after torrential rain flooded homes and premises earlier this week.

Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys has said her Department will support householders affected by the severe flooding.

40mm of rain fell in an hour in New Ross on Monday.

The clean-up operation is still underway as businesses and homeowners assess the damage caused by the flood waters.

Independent TD Verona Murphy is calling on the Government to ensure support is delivered to those most affected:

"We haven't had what I would call delivery on these schemes that were promised on in the incident in Bridgetown, Enniscorthy and some parts of New Ross at Christmas. So I'm calling on the minister and the government to actually make good on these schemes and don't make false promises. This is a bit of delivery for people who have experienced such hardship."
