Bob Geldof could bid to become the next resident of Áras an Uachtaráin.
The musician and humanitarian campaigner is considering standing as an independent candidate, saying it would be an 'enormous privilege' to succeed Michael D. Higgins.
According to the Irish Independent he had thought of running for Fianna Fail until Michael Martin confirmed last Friday that he was backing Jim Gavin.
Later today Fine Gael are due to confirm Heather Humphrey's as its candidate for the presidential election.
