Rising energy prices and fears of blackouts this winter will be discussed at the Oireachtas Joint Environment Committee today.
Environment Minister Eamon Ryan, Éirgrid, and the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities will be questioned by TDs and Senators about growing concerns over electricity supply in Ireland.
It follows amber alerts, warning of a shortage of energy generation in recent months, and concerns over future gas supplies in Europe.
Committee Chair, Green Party TD Brian Leddin says people here need to be reassured today:
"Firstly, the cost of energy to consumers is going to be bearable, we know not everything is fixable, but the state has certain things in its power to minimize the impact of these surge in in energy prices. Secondly, we want to be assured that there is a stable supply of energy."
