The Bishop of Limerick says ordaining women is not necessarily a solution to the issues affecting the Catholic church.
A survey - carried out among mass-goers in 26 Irish diocese - has found the majority want to see women priests.
They are also in favour of shorter sermons, allowing priests to marry and the church having more respect for the LGBTQI+ community.
However Bishop of Limerick Brendan Leahy says all of the issues raised in the survey need to be fully examined:
"This is something we're going to have to drill down into, all of us: theologically, spiritually, work it out together. This is something which is ahead of us. So I can't say yea or nay now to this. It is a serious challenge for us that we have no priest. Now, that's however also true in other churches that have women ministers and we can't simply say, it will be a solution. I don't think, in fairness to women, that it should be seen simply as a solution issue".
