Many Irish women still have difficulty accessing abortion services despite the 8th amendment being passed, according to the labour leader.
Speaking today at the AGM of the Southern Task Group on Abortion & Reproductive Topics Ivana Bacik called for changes to abortion laws.
The head of the Labour party and TD for Dublin Bay South says access is a key issue:
"The shortcomings are, first of all, the lack of geographic coverage. So in many counties, there are very few GPs, and some counties there are no GPs who are providing early abortion care for women. And that's a real problem because many women have to travel out of county, out of their towns, out of their villages the access care".
