A new report also found one driver was over eight times above the legal limit for alcohol in 2021.

The Medical Bureau of Road Safety says drink-driving remains a very significant danger on Irish roads.

Leo Lieghio's 16-year-old daughter, Marsia, was killed in a hit-and-run in 2005 - he says no one wants to experience his pain:

"It's actually this week now she was knocked down on the 16th by a person who's down in Dublin and she passed away. It would have been this Saturday the 22nd. So it's a poingiant week, it's a tough week for us all. 150 people killed on the roads every year and those numbers can be reduced if people just put their heads down and do what they're supposed to do, and take more care and think of others instead of themselves."
