BT Ireland says the outage in the nation's emergency call system was not malicious.
227 callers weren't able to get through to dispatchers because of a technical issue between 1am and 2.15 on Tuesday morning.
BT says it resolved the issue as soon as possible and linked up with Gardaí - giving officers a list of callers to ring directly.
The Department of Communications was notified this morning of the outage, and is awaiting a detailed report to explain what happened.
