The Irish Hotels Federation is encouraging jobseekers to take up one of the 9,000 vacancies in the sector.

A group representing hotel owners estimates staff numbers have dropped by 9,000 since Covid-19 restrictions were lifted earlier this year.

270,000 people were employed in the tourism and hospitality industries in 2019, which represented one in eleven workers at the time.

President of the Irish Hotels Federation, Denyse Campbell, says there's a wide range of opportunities in the hotel and hospitality sector.

"If you like working with people there's no better career than working in Irish hotels and tourism and hospitality.

"It's ideal for anyone looking at their future career options. It's flexible, there are a range of roles available for all cohorts, from parents to people to returning to the workforce that maybe took some time off during the pandemic - there may even be some people who are seeking a career change as well."
