22,000 blood donations are required over the next 8 weeks as the Irish Blood Transfusion Service warns that supplies of fresh blood are dwindling at hospitals around the country.

The donor clinic at City Hall is reopening, having closed due to the pandemic when the building was being used as a vaccination centre.

The Irish Blood Transfusion service is offering free parking at the nearby Q-Park n a bid to entice more city centre workers to donate.

The IBTS says there is always pressure on some blood types - in particular O negative, A positive and B negative with just a few days supplies of these blood types available at the moment.

A special two day super clinic will take place on September 21st and 22nd and with existing and new donors urged to attend the clinic.

Speaking to RedFM News, Julianne Kelly of the IBTS is appealing to listeners to put the dates in their diaries so the service can meet the demand for blood from hospitals.
