This year's BAFTA nominees have been announced this afternoon.

Among the nominees are a host of Irish actors including Caitríona Balfe, Jessie Buckley, Ciarán Hinds and Ruth Negga.

Three of these, Balfe, Buckley and Negga will compete in the Best Supporting Actress category. Balfe is nominated for her role in Belfast, Buckley in The Lost Daughter and Negga in Passing.

Ciarán Hinds is among the nominations in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in Belfast alongside Caitríona Balfe. Belfast, based on the childhood of actor Kenneth Branagh has been nominated for six awards in total with director/writer Branagh himself shortlisted as well as editor Úna Ní Dhonghaíle.

Leading the way with nominations is sci-fi film Dune with 11 opportunities to win.

The BAFTA Awards will be held on Sunday March 13th in London.
