Jeremy Irons has been residing in a Kilcoe Castle between Skibbereen and Ballydehob in Cork for many years but the actor has now made another purchase in West Cork!

Speaking to Seth Meyers on the Late Night Show in the US this week, Meyers asked Irons about his recent splurge on an island in Cork.

Irons first responded, "How do you know that?", before confirming he indeed has bought an island and elaborated on his plans for his new land.

"I guess I have [bought it]. It's a very small island with a little cottage on it. I can just about swim there from the castle.

"I'm going to put some Kerry ponies and galloway cattle to eat it down. I'm farming a little bit more now than acting."

The 73 year old Oscar, Tony & Emmy award winner bought his West Cork castle in 1998 with his wife, actress Sinead Cusack. Their new asset Mannin Island lies in Poulgorm Bay and is just 200 metres from their castle. The island had been on sale since 2014.

The couple restored the castle over a number of years and Irons reminisced on the work while speak on the Late Night Show saying, "I remember when we were building it. We built the castellations, the bit that goes up and down. We very carefully planned it and had done models and all that and when it was finally built, we looked at it I thought it's wrong, it's too small.

"One of my friends said, `well I'm not telling the builder, you go up there’. So, I climbed up 13 floors of scaffolding and I got to the top and I said 'This is wonderful guys, this is wonderful what you've built, but actually you got to take it down, we've got to make it bigger. It's not strong enough."

Jeremy Irons recently appeared as Rodolfo Gucci in the film House of Gucci alongside Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto and Salma Hayek and is currently in Munich: The Egde of War depicting British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain.
