Midleton Chamber of Commerce say flood damaged businesses need swift support in the wake of last weeks unprecedented flooding in the East Cork town.

Traders saw their premises and business stock wiped out in last Wednesday's flash floods which left Main Street under 3 feet of water in just 8 minutes.

250 properties were impacted and a huge clean up operation mounted to try and get businesses back on their feet.

Enterprise Minister Simon Coveney is seeking Cabinet approval today for an "exceptional humanitarian relief scheme" where businesses could receive funding of up to 100 thousand euro.

Speaking to RedFM News Adrianna Hegarty of Midleton Chamber says traders in the town are very resilient and determined to re-open their doors but they need Government aid:

"They don't have the money. And then on top of that they have to pay their staff. So we need the Government to release the funding immediately. Otherwise people can ask they cannot order. They haven't got the money to order furniture, stock. They need the payment very, very quickly. People are very, very resilient in Middleton and they are determined to get back up and already a number of businesses quite a few there's about 30/35 businesses. They might be running at full capacity, but they're there."
