Large crowds have attended a rally in Dublin, calling for government action on the housing crisis.

The Raise the Roof protest comes just a day after the latest homeless figures hit a new all-time high, with nearly 11,400 people now without a home and living in emergency accommodation.

Politicians and members of the community today walked shoulder to shoulder, alongside members of trade unions and other representative groups.

These people feel the government should be doing more:

"I suppose like a lot of people, we feel a bit hopeless, you know, we're renting, we can't save, we've no security, we're where we are"

"I'm here as a concerned citizen, who's 54 years of age and who'll never own a home. 15 years of government, not just this particular government, but effectively it's been the same government for 15 years, so there needs to be radical change. We need to bring it back to the model of actually building houses for people - Corporation Houses. That's what they need to do".
