Almost 70,000 students who sat their Junior Cert this year may have to wait until November for their results.

The Department of Education has confirmed that marking of the exams is still not complete.

The results are normally released in mid-September, but has faced delays this year.

Social Democrats TD Gary Gannon says the situation is really disappointing.

"I think is one of dismay. And it's also, I'm disappointed for the students themselves. This is a very serious issue that junior cert in and of itself has ramifications for students right this minute, for example, students in fifth year who skipped the transition year process. They don't know the results of their junior cert so they don't know what level they should take in subjects like English and Maths."
