Ukraine's President has given a damning assessment of the United Nations - claiming it's being discredited by Russia and 'isn't functioning' as it should.

He says "the UN Security Council exists, and security in the world does not."

Volodymyr Zelenskyy's latest late-night address called for greater sanctions on Moscow - something we're expecting later.

Meanwhile allegations of war atrocities, which are denied by the Kremlin, continue to be investigated.

Russian airstrikes are continuing to hit the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.

British intelligence services suggests the remaining 160-thousand residents are without light, heat or water.

Officials in London also claim Moscow's troops are preventing humanitarian access, to put pressure on local fighters to surrender.

Meanwhile

A Cork city councillor and former Lord Mayor has joined a walk-out at a UN Forum of Mayors in Geneva.

Deputy Lord Mayor Mick Finn walked out of the chamber following the Russian response to a contribution by the Mayor of Kharkivwho spoke about how the Ukrainian city had been destroyed by bombing.

Russia contested the images presented at the gathering and claimed it was not the aggressor.

Cllr Finn told the gathered mayors about the aid convoys that have left Cork in recent weeks and said that Cork and Ireland have opened their hearts, homes and pockets to help Ukraine.
