The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russian troops have begun their new offensive in the east of the country.

Military officials in Ukraine say Moscow's focusing on the Donestsk and Luhansk regions - with fighting also intensifying in Kharkiv.

Seven people died in missile attacks in the western city, Lviv, which had been a refuge for many fleeing besieged cities further east.

Meanwhile the Foreign Affairs Minister will today address the UN Security Council on the war in Ukraine.

Simon Coveney described the humanitarian toll of the war as "unconscionable" and called for Russia to "stop them madness" by calling a ceasefire and removing troops.

Minister Coveney met with his Ukrainian counterparts last week when he visited Bucha.
