The United States' requirement for all air passengers to provide a negative Covid-19 test before departure, expired this morning.

It follows heavy lobbying from airlines and the travel industry.

Eoghan Corry of Air and Travel Magazine, says it's a welcome development for those travelling to and from the U.S:

"It is a large, major destination out of Ireland that still required testing. We did expect the announcement last week, it's been in President Biden's office for a little while. As of today, no antigen tests required. It was a little bit dramatic because people were getting tested in less than 24 hours before they flew. There were a lot of people coming to the airport doing the test, not quite sure if they were going to board the flight"
