Brexit trade talks must end, deal or no deal, by Sunday - that's what Ursula von der Leyen and Boris Johnson agreed after a three-hour meeting in Brussels last night.

The Commission President says she and the British Prime Minister had a "lively and interesting" meeting -- but their stances "remain far apart".

Number 10 Downing Street says it was "frank discussion".

Fine Gael's spokesman on European Affairs Neale Richmond says we're now closer to a no-deal Brexit than ever.

"We do have a firm deadline now of Sunday. I don't think anyone is expecting a major breakthrough over a three hour dinner, but there are still quite large gaps remaining.

"it is better than nothing that the negotiators are going to meet now for four more days. Hopefully they can bridge those gaps.

"But I think if people haven't started preparing for a no deal they need to take all measures - but hopefully they can pull this out of the fire."
