The Government is being called on to introduce a National Lung-Cancer Screening programme.

The Marie Keating Foundation says less than one third of people say they know the signs and symptoms to watch out for in relation to the disease.

1,850 people die from lung cancer in Ireland every year, more than from any other form of cancer.

Liz Yeates, CEO of the Marie Keating Foundation, says a screening programme is key to increasing awareness about lung cancer:

"It's so important that people go and get themselves checked. Early diagnosis is absolutely key when it comes to lung cancer. This is why the The Marie Keating Foundation is also calling on the government to introduce a National Lung Cancer Screening Programme, just as Breast Check, Cervical Check, or Bowel Screen because that would really improve early diagnosis".
