There are fresh calls for a living wage to help combat poverty.
Social Justice Ireland says higher welfare rates and affordable State housing will help to eradicate childhood poverty.
Spokesperson Susanne Rogers says we are building up problems for the future by not addressing poverty issues now:
"Cheap, affordable, sustainable social or public housing - that is so, so necessary if we're going to put a dent of any sort in child poverty figures. There's been research done about children living in homeless accommodation who missed their milestones. These things are impossible to do when you're in a small hotel room. We are building up trouble for the future because we're not looking after these children as well as we should so".
