Today marks the start of the final weekend meeting of the Citizens' Assembly on bio-diversity loss which takes place in Malahide County Dublin.

The 99-member Assembly has been deliberating on issues since May and will vote on 150 recommendations tomorrow.

The approved recommendations will then be sent to the Oireachtas for consideration.

Assembly Chair Dr Aoibhinn Ni Suilleabháin says the Government will have to apply urgency to prevent further loss of peat bogs, land and water:

"These recommendations aren't something that could be, you know, left on a shelf and considered in 10 years time. These are really things that need to be acted on now. That is coming from the scientists, the NGOs, the voluntary groups, the farmers, this is urgent and and obviously the government thinks so because they put the assembly together to deal with biodiversity loss".
