The four large scale power transformers needed for EirGrid’s Celtic Interconnector project have been delivered and installed in East Cork

The transformers, which weigh 240 tonnes each, arrived at Aghada Power Station from Rotterdam, before being transported to their final destination at the project’s converter station site in Ballyadam

They will play a critical role in ensuring the voltage levels at the converter station are matched to the transmission system voltages, allowing the connection of the interconnector to the grid.

The Celtic Interconnector project will allow the exchange of electricity between Ireland and France
