Publicans say they thought the crisis hitting their industry due to Covid 19 was coming to an end on Friday but now face the prospect of curtailed trading through the busiest period of the year.
The Vintners Federation of Ireland say the news that publicans have to retain table service only until February only serves to deepen the worry for publicans and their staff.
37 bars have closed across Cork in the last 15 months and those left in the trade were depending on the full lifting of all restrictions in the run up to Christmas.
VFI spokesman in Cork Michael O'Donovan who owns the Castle Inn told RedFM News that the move means trade will be severely curtailed.
"It's table service only, and social distancing is required - it majorly reduces the capacity in your premises.
"So obviously then turnover is majorly effected, it's a knock on effect."
