The Taoiseach says nothing has been decided about the future of the National Public Health Emergency Team.
Micheál Martin was speaking in Crosshaven following reports that NPHET will be wound down in October, as the country moves into the next phase of the pandemic.
A full cabinet meeting will take place on Tuesday and it's widely expected a roadmap for the full lifting of restrictions will be announced that evening.
Speaking to RedFM News in Crosshaven in the past hour, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says any decisions about NPHET will be made next week:
"The Chief Medical Officer is a key officer within the Department of Health and leads the public health campaign and leads public health advice so that will remain, that will continue. But precise formats and so on, in terms of the task force, in terms of the senior officials group; all of that will be looked at in terms of how do we transition now from what has been an emergency situation for a long period into creating a more normal environment across government in dealing with the next phase but all of that still remains to be decided."
