The owner of a well-known Cork hotel, says he expects it to lose 200,000 euro between now and Christmas.

Michael Magner, of the Vienna Woods hotel in Glanmire says many companies and organisations have cancelled their Christmas parties due to the rising number of Covid cases in Ireland.

Several corporate lunches and business meetings have also been called off.

Cancelations for the 10th December alone are due to cost the hotel 40,000 euro in lost sales.

Speaking to RedFM News, Michael Magner of the Vienna Woods hotel says the hospitality industry needs government support to prevent job losses:

"The government in particular for our industry... We've had the EWSS or 'E-Wiss', as it's known, in the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme to due to fall back to a reduced level from the 1st December. Our industry, and the hospitality industry in general, is seeking for government to maintain the EWSS at its current levels, not just for December but for the earlier part of the year. And of course, the continuation of the Rates Waiver. These supports will allow business to keep those folks that are employed in their businesses in those jobs."
