Ireland will have another surge of Covid infections in four to six weeks, according to the World Health Organisation.

It's after the number of patients in hospital with the virus dropped by over two thirds this month.

There are 478 now - compared to nearly 1,500 at the start of April.

But Dr David Nabarro, the WHO's special envoy on Covid, says there will continue to be new surges every three months.

"We've actually been going down in terms of numbers around the world in the last 4-6 weeks.

"I think it will pick up again in another 4-6 weeks, and there will be another surge.

"There will be a surge in Ireland as well as Britain, and that may lead to quite a lot of illness in hospitals again."
