Cork Opera House has announced it will close from 6pm today until March 30th.

This is a result of the new measures put in place this morning to slow down the spread of Coronavirus in the country. Leo Varadkar announced that all schools, universities and childcare will close from 6pm today until Sunday March 29th. He also encouraged all indoor public gatherings over over 100 people and outdoor gatherings of over 500 people to cancel.

In a statement, Cork Opera House said, "Following the directives issued by the government and health authorities, Cork Opera House will close from 6pm today until Monday 30 March. All events scheduled to take place in this period, including tonight’s performance of Leo Sayer, will be cancelled.

"We will endeavour to contact all of the affected patrons and will be in touch with more information regarding show rescheduling and / or refunds as soon as possible.

"Our Box Office will close to the public at 6pm this evening. For more updates, please keep an eye on our social media, or email [email protected] and we will try to respond as soon as possible."
