Calls have been made for clarity in relation to the future of the SouthDoc service in Blackpool.

In March, at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, SouthDoc announced a restructuring of their service in order to ensure that the level of service could be maintained.

The service was reduced to 6 centres across Cork with the same number of GP's available to staff it - this led to the temporary closure of the centre in Blackpool which was kept locked and sterile in case it was needed in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Speculation is now growing that due to financial constraints on the Southdoc service and the physical size of the base in Blackpool that it may not reopen.

Blackpool based GP Dr John Sheehan who also works in Southdoc told RedFM News that the Blackpool centre is essential and any issues around it need to be quickly resolved so it can reopen - press PLAY.
