Cork's new purpose-built passport office is set to open in the Autumn
The Office of Public Works is currently project-managing the fit-out of the building on Albert Quay just 500 metres down river from it's existing base on the South Mall
There was some criticism last year at the State paying 26 million euro for a 20 year lease on the new offices however the OPW says the current building is at end of life and the new modern facility will have capacity for 140 staff
There are currently 115 people working in the Cork passport office but staffing levels will increase with the move to Navigation Square
