Works to start next month on improving pedestrian safety in Charleville

It comes after two elderly people were killed last year within weeks of each other when they were struck by HGV's while crossing the town's Main Street

The existing 5 pedestrian crossings within the town will be refurbished and upgraded to “table top” pedestrian crossings with improved visibility for pedestrians and motorists.

However road safety campaigners in the North Cork town say these "temporary fixes", in advance of a proper bypass of the town as part of the planned Cork-Limerick road upgrade, fall short of what is needed
