Work on the next phase of Marina Park is set to begin in the summer.
Cork City Council has confirmed that work on the next and final phase will extend from Church Avenue to Atlantic Pond, and will included picnic areas, new paths, adventure play areas and the restoration of a number of architectural heritage sites.
The Echo report that ten trees will be removed in order to facilitate construction, while a further 16 trees have been identified as diseased or dead and will also be remove - however an extensive tree planting programme is part of the next stage of the park.
When complete Marina Park will comprise of 70 acres, six times larger than Fitzgerald's Park.
