A 41-year-old woman who was raped and sexually assaulted by her brother in the 1990s says his jailing is part of a lifelong healing process.
47-year-old Emmett Baylor of Hilltop in Youghal received a two and a half year sentence at Cork Central Criminal Court yesterday.
Speaking to RedFM News outside court, Niamh Herbert outlined the impact the abuse had on her life:
"I've had depression. I've had anxiety and I started using alcohol and drugs from a young age, sleep disturbances and it's going to be a lifetime of work. I've put a lot of work into healing myself over the years and I will continue to do that. This is part of the healing process and when I leave here today, I'm starting a new chapter."
