There are widespread reports of nurse and midwives suffering from burnout in Cork hospitals.

The INMO says overcrowding issues and lack of staff are affecting the mental and physical health of its members.

Cork university Hospital is currently experiencing abnormally high trolley figures, with patients having to endure long waiting times.

Speaking to RedFM news, Colm Porter from the INMO, says they are hearing about burnout from members every day:

"To deliver the care required-  there's no doubt that it kind of has an impact on both their mental health and also their physical health. And yeah I mean, the reports of burnout are widespread really across Midwifery, or Nursing Midwifery in Cork".
