Speaking at a media briefing in Schull this afternoon, Superintendent Joseph Moore of Bantry Garda station said he believes there are still persons who have information about the murder that have not spoken to Gardaí.

The body of the 39 year old was found near her holiday home in Toormore on the morning of the 23rd of December 1996.

Gardaí want to speak to anyone who was in the Toormore area between the 20th and 23rd of December 1996, in particular anyone who was driving on the R591 or R592.

They are also asking for anyone who met, spoke or had any interaction with the victim from when she arrived in Ireland on the 20th to when her body was discovered to come forward.

Investigating officers also want to establish the movements of Sophie Toscan du Plantier between 4:30m on the 22nd of December and when her body was found at 10am on the morning of the 23rd.

Speaking at today’s briefing, Superintendent Joseph Moore says a full serious crime review was launched in June this year and has resulted in interviews with new witnesses:

"The interviewing of witnesses both new and existing has been conducted by the investigation team based in Bantry. This has resulted in the identification of a number of additional witnesses which is currently being worked through by the investigation team.

There is also an international dimension to this investigation. We have a number of witnesses to interview in France, the United Kingdom and beyond. We're engaging with Interpol, the section Garda Headquarters and they are in turn engaging with our Garda liaison officers based in Paris and London who are facilitating liaison with our police counterparts in those jurisdictions. We're receiving ongoing cooperation from our French and UK counterparts."
