Six fully loaded vans are due to leave Kennedy Quay tomorrow at 3pm, with volunteers from groups including Cork Penny Dinners and Cork City Missing Person Search and Recovery among those making the trip to Eastern Poland.

The vans are loaded with essential medical supplies, food, hygiene products, tents, children's clothing and nappies, and volunteers at the North Cathedral say people have donated over ten tons of items in the past few days.

Speaking to RedFM News, Chris O'Donovan from Cork City Missing Person Search and Recovery says the support of the people of Cork is greatly appreciated:

"We made the announcement on Wednesday, thinking it would be kind of  low key. And since that day, this place here until seven o'clock every night- from nine in the morning to seven o'clock has been overrun with people volunteering their time, volunteering their services and donating money. It's absolutely unbelievable. Without our families and without all the support of the people of Cork- they're fantastic, without that none of this would be happening. So it's a team effort. Everyone's a little cog in the wheel. We'll be the people driving it out but without everybody else in that wheel, this wouldn't be happening at all."
