A Circuit Court injunction has been granted to the developer at Lios Cara estate following a blockade by residents.

Residents first mounted the blockade on February 1st to highlight their concerns about the construction of 44 new social houses as they had not been consulted and they appealed to the developer to engage with them

In a statement issued to RedFM News this morning the residents say they remain open to meaningful discussion with City Council to change the development mix in line with the Government Policy of "Housing for All"

BMOR were appointed by the City Council as contractors to build 44 new social houses at Lios Cara with works commencing on the site last October

Residents say they were forced to take action as the developer refused to engage with them. They mounted a blockade at the estate last month saying they wanted a mix of social, affordable and private housing to satisfy the needs of everyone in the community

In a statement issued to RedFM News, BMOR say this blockade has continued up to and including yesterday, preventing construction and completion of the development

BMOR say that they held a meeting with the Residents Committee earlier this month and have also met with the Cork City Council

The company says that despite those meetings the blockade has continued and residents have confirmed that they will continue their peaceful protest indefinitely until their demands to change the tenure of the development are met.

BMOR says they had no choice but to seek a Circuit Court injunction, which was granted yesterday, to enable them to continue on-site, and to recommence works uninterrupted
