Two Cork towns have been granted almost 2 million euro in funds to help them rejuvenate their town-centres.

Fermoy and Macroom have received the money from the Rural Regeneration Development Fund.

The Department of Rural and Community Development says the fund supports job creation in rural areas, addresses rural de-population and supportes improvements to Irish towns and villages with a population of less than 10,000 people.

The money will be used to renovate vacant buildings in the town centres, provide recreational facilities and develop cultural, community and working hubs.
