An investigation is underway into the death of a 13 year old girl who was competing in a motorsport event in Enniskeane on Sunday.
Lauren O'Brien from Tirelton was killed in a tragic incident at the Cork Autograss Racing Club and Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Ralph Riegal, Southern Correspondent with the Irish Independent says tributes have been pouring in for the student:
"The scene was sealed off, the vehicle involved will be inspected. The office of the state pathologist has been notfied. Gardaí are particularly interested if anyone has any camera footage of the competitors taking off. They want to look at that."
Lauren O'Brien is survived by her mother, father, brother and sister.
She was a first year student in McEgan College in Macroom which provided counselling to Lauren's friends and classmates yesterday.
The school said it wished to extend iuts "deepest sympathy to her loving family all those who loved Lauren and had the privilege of knowing her."
