Tributes are being paid to a young mother who died in a drowning tragedy in East Cork yesterday.
Joanna Wisniowska was attempting to rescue her young son after he got into difficulty swimming off Ballycroneen beach.
Ms Wisniowska rushed into the sea in a bid to help her ten year old son shortly before 1pm yesterday where the boy managed to make his way on to rocks on the shore.
However, Joanna in turn experienced difficulty in the water. She was then taken from the sea by the RNLI and transferred to Cork University Hospital where she passed away yesterday afternoon.
The mother of two, who was originally from Poland but lived in the area for a number of years leaves behind a husband and two children.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork East Sinn Fein TD Pat Buckley says the community is in shock:
"These tragic events come along with just shuts the whole community down, but I do know from speaking to people that in the community are rallying around them, and they will be fully supported in the community. So as I said, Our condolences go to everyone, but it's a sad, sad day for East Cork."
