The trial of two men charged with murdering Kieran Quilligan has heard one of the accused turned up at a Garda station a week after the 47-year-old was last seen in public, saying he was concerned for his friend and wanted to assist Gardaí.
33-year-old Niall Long, formerly of St Michael’s Close, Mahon, Cork and 27-year-old Luke Taylor, formerly of Cherry Lawn Blackrock, Cork have both pleaded not guilty to murder.
Garda James Bird said Luke Taylor walked into Anglesea Street Garda Station on the 8th of September 2023 and said he was concerned about Kieran Quilligan and wanted to help.
Luke Taylor said he and Kieran Quilligan had left Mr Quilligan’s apartment to buy crack cocaine on the 1st of September.
He said Kieran Quilligan was contacted by the drugs gang to change the location of the meet to the corner of South Mall and Grand Parade before the prescription drugs he had been taking that day started to take effect and his memory became hazy.
Luke Taylor said he couldn’t recall any more until he woke up at his girlfriend’s apartment the next morning and noticed 200 euro in cash he had on him the night before was missing.
