A Trans+Pride march is taking place in the city this afternoon.
It’s the second event by the Trans+Pride Cork group who say they have seen a spike in violence towards members of the transgender community.
Organisers have described the event as an important “act of resistance” and say issues such as access to housing, healthcare and political representation continue to impact members of the LGBTI+ community.
Speaking to RedFM News, Louise O’Donnell from Trans+Pride Cork outlines the route for the march:
2I know that 69% of students hear homophobic remarks from other students. 76% of LGBTQ students feel unsafe in school 90% of LGBTI youth struggle with their mental health. There is real present harm within a community. Part of Pride has always been to protest full terms that are being perpetrated."
