Cork city is to get a "Night Time Economy Advisor" under a new pilot scheme

Nine towns and cities are to have these advisors appointed under new licensing laws approved by Cabinet which will see nightclubs remain open until 6am

Minor flooding on the city centre quays is expected to clear shortly.

Gardaí at Anglsea Street say there is water on the road at Morrison's Island, however the road is passable.

The council say there is also water on Union Quay, however traffic is flowing.

Legislation is expected to be introduced today which will approve a ban on evictions until next March.

The eviction ban will not extend to tenants who refuse to pay rent or misuse a property, and existing notices to quit will still be enforceable.

There's evidence today of a severe shortage of teachers.

A survey carried out by the Teachers Union of Ireland has found that 91% of secondary schools reported difficulties in recruiting teachers in the past six months.
